ABOUT THE EXHIBIT: 

A juried exhibit highlighting the work of Fledgling artists. Artists selected for this exhibition who have never been members of the NHAA before will receive a free one-year membership. Cash prizes will be awarded!  First place will receive $300, second place $200, and third place $100. Don’t miss this opportunity to  showcase your work in our gallery in downtown Portsmouth!

ABOUT THE JUROR:

Richard Haynes, Jr. is a Portsmouth-based visual storyteller, author and educator, Haynes uses art to portray his personal history as a person of color, weaving together stories of love, connection, racial unity and community. He received an MFA from Pratt Institute; worked for CBS Publishing and ran his own company, Haynes Images, He was also an adjunct professor at McIntosh College, a faculty member at UNH for their McNair Graduate Opportunity Program, an art instructor at the Currier Museum, an art teacher at East Side House Settlement, a videographer instructor at the South Bronx Community Action Theater, and a visual illiteracy teaching assistant at PS6/Model Cities Program in New York. Currently, Richard is the Associate Director of Admissions for Diversity at the University of New Hampshire. His work hangs in the permanent collection of the Currier Museum of Art where he also served as artist-in-residence. His evocative paintings regularly win regional awards and press attention. He is on the board of the NHAA and is a leader in the NH art scene.

ARTWORK ACCEPTED: 

  • 1-3 pieces of work per artist
  • 2D work – maximum framed dimension 60” in the longest direction INCLUDING FRAME.
  • 3D work - smaller 3D work must not exceed 32" H and must fit within a 24” footprint to display securely on a gallery pedestal. If you have larger 2D or floor standing 3D work, please call the gallery to discuss size and display options.
    All work must be created with the last 2 years and not shown at the Levy Gallery
  • All artists exhibiting online or at any NHAA in person venues must adhere to our PRESENTATION AND FRAMING GUIDELINES  (click here) and NHAA EXHIBIT AGREEMENT (click here) on the on the website in the member portal.FOR ALL ARTISTS UNDER 18 YOU MUST HAVE A PARENT OR GUARDIAN REVIEW THE NHAA EXHIBIT AGREEMENT AND HELP YOU WITH YOUR ONLINE SUBMISSION.

OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, March 1, 5-8 p.m.

PICK-UP SUBMISSIONS: Sunday. March 31, 4-6 p.m. and Monday, April 1  9 a.m.-6 p.m.
